They say there isnt much you can do but I believe that Yoga and stretching can help . If your skin is used to streching then the sudden strain put on it by your changing body will not have the devastating effect that it might have. Keeping skin from getting to dry is a good technique as well. I dont believe the hype about certain lotions being specifically for stretch marks.

It probably does have to do with genetics and how much elastin is in your specific skin. But having healthy skin will definantly help.

Ive had 3 kids and no stretch marks at all. I have however gotten some on my thighs from gaining weight in the past.

If you are very thin and get very large in your pregnancy I dont think there is much you can do to prevent it. Something has to give.

Vitamin E oil is very good for skin. Calendula oil is another one Ive used.

Avoid petroleum based lotions, they make you soft to begin with but dry you out in the long run. Its sort of a pointless venture. Don't use lotions with alcohol either. Alcohol will dry your skin out. Most have alcohol. I recommend a natural oil.

The probability that you will get stretch marks can be heredity. Try cocoa butter and/or shea butter. 100% of either of these things is best. Bath and Body Works carries both of these.

I tried everything thing everyone said while I was pregnant. Cocoa butters and all. did not work. I even asked my doctor because I didn't understand why I was getting them and some of my friends that were using the same creams as me, were not getting them. He said it is has to do with your skin. noone is the same and there is no preventing them if your gonna get them. Lotion just helps the itch for people who are getting them.
However if you are gonna try some type of cream- be consistant. I wasn't as consistant as I should have been. So maybe that was my problem. Apply it SEVERAL times a day.
