Regarding medications, what exactly is a moon-face?

I asked questions re: prednizone and methotrexate and consequences. Some replys mentioned moon-face. What's that? Any suggestions for other workable medications for RA besides injections?

Answers:
Moon face refers to one of the common adverse effects with steroid (prednisolone / predizone) use. Long-term use of steroids in high doses causes an increase in body fat, and it is distributed more centrally in the body ie the trunk and face. Other adverse effects may include high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes and changes in the skin.

However, steroids are a very effective drug for controlling the symptoms and disease activity in RA. Other drugs such as methotrexate are important as they too are very effective in controlling RA for a lot of people, and allow the dose of steroids to be kept as low as possible.

All drugs used for RA have potential adverse effects, but you have to keep in mind that they are doing a very important job in halting the progression of the disease. You have to live with a balance between making sure your RA is not active and adverse effects you can tolerate. If you have concerns about your medication you should speak to your physician who knows about you specifically and will have lots of informaiton about medication for RA.

why do i get pimples?

The injections are actually not painful because of the slenderness and coating on the needle. I would try Humira or another antibody like that -- the benefits could be amazing. I think you can also get biotech agents like this as an infusion if that's preferable.

Gold has been used to treat RA too.
