is it normal to sleep for 17 hours?
Question:
Answers:
Once in a very long while because you are extremely fatigued. for example you just ran a marathon, just spend 36 hours straight travelling internationally, just came back from a weeklong climbing expedition. sure, that's just the body catching up.
But if this is something your body is demanding on a regular basis for no apparant reason, see a doctor right away. It could be a symptom of many illnesses, ranging from cancer to heart disease to neurological disorders to clinical depression. Better go get a checkup fast to rule out the more serious reasons or start treatment right away if you need it.
Other Answers:
Well it's normal if you are sick or haven't had much sleep in the past few days. But if this is a daily occurrence than something is wrong and you should see a Dr.

SURE DUDE, I DO IT ALL THE TIME, BY THE WAY, DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT YEAR IT IS?
my roommate slept until 3pm today, woke up, ate and went back to bed until 7pm. Now she's too tired to go out with me & wants to go to bed. Normal? Who knows? But certain people have different sleep patterns.
Not for a Sloth. They need about 20hrs..or a Koala Bear.they need about 22hrs sleep a day.if you are either of those you should really get some more sleep.
Do you sleep that long every day? If not, I would say you had too many late nights.
Sleep deprivation can lead to a build up where you need to sleep more.
There is another condition called hypersomnia in which people sleep too much and can lead to narcolepsy where the faint into a sleep; but these people sleep at least 18 hours a day, every day.
SAFETY FIRST - Do not drive or operate heavy machinery etc when tired.
NO. Get to a doctor ASAP. It is either a serious physical problem like lukemia, or a serious mental disorder.
i sleep like that too no big
depends, if it is a hangover then yea, but like just wanting to then no, 8-10 is normal for most ppl, some one like me i am good on like 6-7
If it's all the time, I think it's not normal. Although I sleep a lot myself (9hrs or so). When I was younger, I was sleeping around 14-16hrs or more. It ended up being my thyroid. Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). It can make you sleepy. There are other reasons. I would definitely go see a doctor. And don't let him just say that you're just tired from work or something. You know your body and if this is abnormal for you, then there's something abnormal. Make sense. Good luck.
