Firstly, the muslim woman only needs to cover her head in the presence of other male counterparts. She can be stripped down to her underwear for all she likes in her house, when there is no one else apart from her husband. Therefore, she head isn't really covered 24/7, thus she can take the time to keep her scalp clean and. well, aired.
Secondly, the scarves made to cover a woman's head is usually light and (usually) absorbent, and washable. Where is the question of the scalp not being hygienic when scarves are changed daily and/or washed.
Thirdly, when the scalp is covered whenever the person is outside, isn't it all the more hygienic, for you've protected it from all the dust and pollution and heat and UV?
Perhaps, in all fairness, it is more hygienic. but at what cost?

Her hair isn't the reason for the covering, but it's to keep other men from seeing her.

I am a muslim woman and veild also,
1. we don't have to cover our faces at all , just the hair, and dress in a modest cloth with ANY COLOR, and ANY FASHION , this means that i wear skirts,jeans, shirts, blouses and any thing , as long as it's modest and not descrbing the body.
2. We don't wear it all the day , i wear it ONLY when im facing forigners ( and forigners here means the men who i could marry this mean that i could show my hair to my father, grand father , uncle, as all of those relatives called " Mehrem" in islam , means the person who the girl or the woman cannot marry, and of course besides all of those, i MUST show my beauty to my husband , as one of the purposes of the Veil is to keep the woman beauty for her husband) .
3. The Muslim (woman or man) obies only what's said in the Qur'an and Sunna (talks and acts of prophet mohamed) , so if the husband or the boss in work , or the president of the country him self orders me to do something which is not right in islam I Should and MUST NOT obey him as by obeying him i will be disobying God Orders, and God in islam is above every thing else.
