I've heard the pros and cons re: soy products--are the good for you, or not?

As someone that has worked as a medical researcher regarding soy - I have some very strong sentiments regarding soy products.
We observed countless women go from having no noticible reproductive (breast, ovarian, ect.) cancers to having very large ones.
Some soy products are benefitial in preventing cells from becoming cancerous - but only if the cell is not already that way! All of us have cancer countless times in our lives and never know it - because our body does what its supposed to and gets rid of the cell that's gotten "confused".
However, phytoestrogens (the estrogen component of soy products, the "active ingredient") fit the same receptors on the cells as estrogens do. And, reproductive tumors use estrogens as food - so if you are taking soy products you are directly feeding these tumors.
We also see indications that soy taken by women that eventually have children may negatively impact the estrogen/testosterone ratio of all male children.
Whole soy foods - not the extracted tablets etc - were considered highly dangerous for many years. It was not until the oriental communities learned to ferment soy that it became acceptable as safe. Soy contains goitrogens that affect iodine levels in the body and can lead to hypo/hyper- thyroidism among other things if consumed pre-fermented. Tofu is not a fermented food and is thusly not safe.
As a whole food, whithout extracting anything, and with remembering to only eath the fermented foods, such as miso, soy is likely a healthy contribution to the diet. However, without these factors being taken into consideration, the long term effects of soy supplementation are potentially very dangerous.

Soy products are good for you. But excess should be avoided.
Only buy Non-GMO soy products (not genically modified).
Many companies make Non-gmo soy products now.
They aren't just good for you--they're GREAT for you! I don't see any downside to soy products whatsoever! The humble soybean may be the most perfect food ever!
They are chock-full of protein, are low in fat, and can be used to make any number of tasty things which are good for you. In fact, if you look at any protein bar or shake out there, there's a good chance a bit chunk of that protein comes from soy protein.
I don't see any cons. And someone mentioned not to excess.you CAN'T eat soybeans to excess. Perhaps soy-based products that have too much fat in them, but definitely not soy on its own.
The only con with soy may be soy milk, when compared to dairy milk. Dairy milk always has more calcium, but they usually have about the same amount of protein. And the taste of both soy milk and real milk is bad IMHO unless with a lot of chocolate and even then.kinda yucky aftertaste.
This is a bit relevant, so I would just like to say that Morningstar Farms Bacon Strips taste wonderful! They may not taste exactly like bacon (but I have been told by meat-eaters that they really are impressive), but they are great. Nutritionally.not so much. They were made with taste in mind. I just mention this because meat substitutes can be just as "yummy" as, er, meat. Sometimes too much like meat for me, heh. All hail soy!
