Try seitan, you can get it chicken or beef style at a good health food store. It is made from Wheat Gluten and is a good source of protein. Nearly every kid likes Peanut or Almond butter, you can use that on fruits and veggies or in smoothies. (Get the sugar free, organic kind if you can.) Silken Tofu (available at any grocery store) adds a creamy texture to fruit smoothies and is an excellent protein boost. There are also dozens of meatless meat substitutes in your grocer's freezer that taste great and provide protein. Lastly, keep in mind that most people think humans need a lot more protein to be healthy than they actually do. Look at a Gorilla, primates are our closest cousin in nature, very similar to us genetically and they grow to be huge muscular beasts on just a diet of fruits and vegetables. You might check out www.mypyramid.gov, they have a pyramid food guide both for kids and vegetarians, but not for kid vegetarians. Hmmmm. soy follow the typical asian diet. also indian food the vegitarian dishes are highly abundent over in india considering hinndus do not eat the meat. fish is very good. i am sure he would eat certain beans if cooked for him the right way.Maybe you can try getting him to prepare some veggie food. Some food groups can be "tasty" to kids if theyre presented right or they make it themselves, I would try different types of cheese/beans/nuts (maybe have a "taste party" - try carrots cut into long fingers dipped into mayo) cos thats pretty restricting!
Does he like pizza? What about ccoking lots of pasta? Maybe he has to just learn if he wants to be veggie to eat some of this stuff!

That is fine that he wants to be a vegetarian. BUT it sounds more like he has some issues with protein. Nuts and beans are veg food but he does not like them. The veg to eat a veg style is adequate amounts and full proteins which are most easily gotten from meats. They can also come from the beans and nuts and soy. There are protein supplements BUT they are often not complete. I think the question really is there some issue he has with proteins?Explain to him he must have Protien to continue growing, he must eat some sort of protien, he also needs protien for certain metabolic processes in the body- lord what a problem, never seen a 12 year old who did not love a Quarter Pounder with Cheese- good luck
