Which is the current "drug of choice" for acute sinusitis?

Nice question.

So far, Evidence Based Medicine (Cochrane Library) show us "current evidence is limited but supports the use of penicillin or amoxicillin for 7 to 14 days" NOT significative differences where founded with others antibiotics.

Also we some interesting "Antibiotics can help relieve uncomplicated sinus infections, but they do not make a major difference on clinical cures"

This is well kn owed a few years ago.

Your answer, the first choice, IF WE DECIDE to use an antibiotic, must be Amoxicillin, for 7 days (the recent publications show 10 days is unnecessary).

Something more interesting, we used, a few years ago (some people still use it) DECONGESTANT, is well documented now, that kind of drugs PROLONG the sinusitis. The same happen, probably with ANTIHISTAMINE drugs.

flonase

zithromax..flonase is for chronic sinus problems and will help but not if it is infection like sinusitis. u need a antibiotic. u can also try guafenisen over the counter(mucinex).

i have it and periodically i have to take zithromax, but my daughter takes flonase and zyrtec for it

I had sinusitis for a while. I was on augmentin for a month-if you aren't allergic to penicillin, go for it. I would definately have the dr confirm that you have sinusitis with an MRI. Hope you feel better. :)
