Has anybody done prolotherapy? Or know anything about it?

I've seen this mentioned on a few sites I've been to reading up on S I joint stuff. I was wondering if anyone has information on this or has done this.

Prolotherapy involves injecting a muscle or ligament with a solution (usually a saline solution base) that creates irritation in the tissue. The theory behind it is that this irritation causes proliferation (growth) of the local tissues which can "stabilize" the joint that the tissue is around and that is having trouble.

If the injured tissue is causing instability in the local joint, then, the theory goes, the growth of new tissue will "shore up" and strengthen the joint. In my practice, I have heard mixed results from very good result to adverse reactions. There seems to be building evidence in the literature for it, but it is not conclusive as of yet.

One of the previous posters noted that a Chiropractor did a type of massage and called it prolotherapy. I feel that this would more properly be called deep tissue massage, NIMMO, Rolfing, myofascial release, or one of the other deep tissue massage techniques. These can break up scar tissue and help to remodel injured tissues, but it is not "prolotherapy" as in research articles.

Yes; I've received prolotherapy last Fall. I have a chronic elbow condition & I tried 6 prolotherapy sessions. The chiropractor (he did that before training in prolotherapy) kind of massaged the tendons/muscles/tissues around my elbow very strenuously. It was painful during the actual session, but the pain greatly lessoned within 2 days. Supposedly the relief is permanent,but my pain returned within a month of the final visit.
