She might consider signing up for SSI.it also has health insurance and a spend-down card to cover past medical expenses. I would consult a SSI lawyer before going through the Social Socurity administration.

Every health facility will have a social worker or case coordinator that can help with medical costs. They are knowledgeable and equipped to help you sign up for all financial help you qualify for. There are both national and state-level assistance programs.and many hospitals that will treat regardless of payment options (such as a teaching hospital). Ask your sister to ask to speak with a social worker at the facility in which she was diagnosed. There IS help available.
she should start with the social workers dept at the hospital. most likely she will have to apply (with their help) for state aid/insurance. when it comes to medication, the makers of the medication sometimes have financial hardship funds. inquire at the website of the medication/treatment manuf. There is a lot of information on the NCI site http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics
Good luck and God Bless
May I suggest to you Ameri Plan. They do not have any restrictions on pre-existing conditions and you can start saving immediately. There is a hospital advocacy program that assigns you a personal advocate to negotiate with doctors on your medical bills.
The plan also includes savings on dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic care. I'd check them out. I'm so proud to be with them. I know I shouldn't advertise, but your need sounds great. Let me know if you have any questions. wlakin@ameriplan.net

We are currently running a promotion for just the dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic plan where you can try it out for 3 months for $23 total. This is a great service. You should check it out!
