How do we treat "Otitis Externa with a perforated tympanic membrane"?

when was the hippocratic oath written?

Answers:
It is an ear infection to the outer ear canal but since you have a perforated eardrum, stay away from ear drops of any kind. With no ear drum protecting your inner ear, any medicated drops will drain to your inner ear, which may cause some nasty symptoms and possible damage. Opt for oral antibiotics instead.

Otitis externa is a fancy word for outer ear infection.have you been to the doc? Obviously if you know that phrase.did they put you on any antibiotics or ear drops? As far as the perforated tympanic membrane goes, I don't know that there is treatment for it.I think that once it is perforated it stays that way. If you are in pain go to the doc and see if they can give you something or at least suggest something over the counter.

a natural muscle relaxant?

Hi..First of all the information provided is not sufficient enough to give complete treatment protocol..Its so coz there are certain infection of outer ear canal(also called Otitis externa) which can erode the nearby bones also eg Cholestetoma and it demand special management ..Likewise the management of the perforated TM also depends upon the the presence/absence of discharge, size of perforation, any associated nerve deafness..So my answer shall be very general coz U fail to provide the detailed history and the answer is as follows:-
1st--------Give antibiotic cover specially for those against gram positive pathogens..
2nd--------Dry the ear with ear drops and continued oral antibiotic cover..
3rd--------Never let water get inside it..
4th--------Meanwhile get otoscopic and audiometry done to see the size of perforation and amount of hearing loss respectively..
5th--------Go for Tympanoplasty..which again is of two types, Overlay and Underlay..

Overall there are high rate of success in uncomplicated cases..
I hope you shall find my answer enlightening..

Otitis externa is also called swimmers ear which shows a high rate of infection in swimmers.Different micro organisms including fungi are involved. If the external auditory canal is painful during examination and there is lots of discharge,it can be considered as otitis externa.Treatment depends on the lab results and it varies from ear drops containing antibiotics plus sucktion drainage and also applying special acids inorderto make the environmet unsuitable for pathogenic organisms.what is more, the infection maye be extended if the tympanic membrane is perforated, then it will make the outcome poor as it may last longer.systemic antibiotics may be prscribed aswell in complicated cases.
