What are the positives and negatives of taking birth control if you intend to remain abstinent?

Question:
My mom is taking me to an OBGYN and she says it is highly likely that this is what they will prescribe, i have heard a lot of bad stuff about taking it though. I want to eventually have kids of my own and I am a little phobic about taking medications (building immunities, unnatural things in body, etc.)

Answers:
they cant force you to take it. but if youre not sexually active, BC can help regulate heavy or irregular periods, and may help with acne

Other Answers:
Do lots of your own on-line and library research. There are many aspects to consider. If you are an informed patient when you visit your doc, ask the questions of your doc about why she thinks it is a good plan for you. This is good regarding any treatment plan at any time of life.

if you intent to remain abstinent, I would not take the pill.. but your mom is probably looking out for your best interest as she may feel that you will be sexually active soon. I am like yourself, I also have a phobia of taking medications unnecessarily.. I am 38 and never have taken the pill. and to date, I have one child.. and hope to have more. Good luck with your decisions..

well if ur going to remain abstinent, then u dont need birth control, no use in gaining weight for nothing, lol. But if u have to take something, then the pill is the best, i use OrthoTricyclen Lo, its just as effective with less side effects

Well, look at the birth control commercials.

(Sideaffects include: Heart attack, Stroke, Nausea, Heartburn, Indigestion, Upset Stomach, Diarhea (hey Pepto Bismal))

Seriously though, watch the commercials.
