yes there's no cure but there's a way to manage & avoid the precipitating factors. precipitating factors are: 1. infection 2. dehydration 3. cold 4. acidosis 5. hypoxia from high altitude or general anaesthesia.
Treatment: acute attack requires supportive therapy (IV fluid, oxygen, antibiotic & analgesic). Folic acid is given during pregnancy & to those with severe hemolysis. Regular blood transfusuion is given to cases with severe anaemia, patients with frequent crisis, before elective surgery & during pregnancy. In dental treatment always take a prophylactic antibiotic & avoid sedatives & general anaesthesia.
