This is a serious inquiry. When a prescription medicine is to be taken with food, how much food is necessary?

Question:
In other words, does the instruction "take with food" mean
a full dinner or would a glass of milk or piece of cake or candy be enough?

Answers:
Many medications should NOT be taken with citrus fruit or juice. A piece of buttered toast and half a banana, or half a peanut butter sandwich and 4 ounces of milk is sufficient to satisfy the "Take with food" instruction. If your medication dose can be taken at a mealtime, eat part or all of your meal before taking your pill(s).

Other Answers:
i suggest half a meal, before you take the pill/medicine. This way you have food inside your stomach and also some food that will fall on top of the pill. Thats how i always take my medications, but to be safe ask your doctor.

you don't need much food. in all honesty, it doesn't help the medicine at all (with most meds), it just helps your stomach feel less irritated and upset since some drugs will cause upset stomach. try eating a hundred calories or so. if your stomach stays upset, eat more food

Like a cracker, and water.
If its a meal it will say meal.
If you get an upset tummy take a little more food or yogurt is good.

Take with food means something that will coat the stomach like a slice of bread, the cake and milk, so the pill won't cause irritation in the stomach.

It means do not take on an empty stomach- a piece of candy or cake is not going to do it- take the medicine during your evening meal, or breakfast.

Eat with a piece of bread or some chips. Eat the food first, then take the pill.
Candy is prob not the best idea. You need something that will stay in your stomach long enough for the pill to disintegrate. Orange juice is a really good idea too.

With Food basically means the meds need something to grab ahold of. a sm sandwhich is fine. as far as a piece of cake or candy that won't do.

When a medication is labeled "take with food", it's usually because that particular medication can be harsh on your stomach and can cause nausea. A small snack is generally fine but I wouldn't substitute candy for "food".

You should eat a sandwich or a snack. But it all depends on how you feel after you take it. You will know within a day or 2 how much you should eat. Hope you feel better.

All prescription medicines contain labels or instructions about how to take it. For example, "take with food or milk" means the medicine may upset an empty stomach or that food may improve its absorption. In this case, eat a snack or meal right before or after taking the medication.

Depending on the meds a glass of milk would be fine. A few crackers would work too. I would avoid the cake and candy route tho. Sugar makes it harder for some meds to be absorbed the way they need to be.
