i had pnuemonia 10 days ago. I'm alot better, but I cant get rid of this flem in my throat. what can I do?

Question:
Ive taken perscription shots/pills but nothing gets rid of this flem!

Answers:
Buy a decongestant, or get an inhaler from your doctor. Your doctor can also give you a prescription to break it up easier. Albuterol is great for this. Over the counter, you can also buy Robitussin, or the generic (Tussin) which works pretty good too. Pnuemonia is really nasty to get and get rid of! Good luck!

Other Answers:
I found a drug called musinex to be considerably helpful. You cany buy it at your local grocery or drugstore. Beyond that, only time will get rid of it completely.

Go to the Doctor..

A great at home remedy would be to gargle with lukewarm salt water for a full minute and then drink a hot cup of tea.

I had pnuemaonia just about 1 year ago. It almost killed me and prolly would've if I hadn't seen a doctor. They hit me up with serious antibiotics, and I just had to wait it out.

It could take a while, I feel your pain! But sorry, only time will help with this one unless they came up with a miracle cure since then.

Hope you feel better soon, and be thankfull because this one is a killer!

I think you should go to a good doctor.

The salt water gargle mentioned can help. But you also want to drink plenty of fluids such as water so that the secretions will be thinner and can be expectorated more easily. Dehydration is a common side effect from intense inllness and the drinking will help you rehydrate.

Hello, First let me say I am glad you are better--pneumonia is very dangerous. As for the phlegm, certain foods cause irritation which in turn your body tries to repair and sooth by producing mucous. Stay away from dairy products, sugar, white flour products, coffee and tea (except herbal tea). Also, since you have taken anti-biotics, you need to replace the enzymes in your digestive tract that were destoyed by the anti-biotics. Ask at your local health food store for the best brands. They will also have more info on this so that you can avoid a yeast overgrowth from taking the anti-biotics. Yeast overgrowth can be causing the excess phlegm and it also causes many other problems in the body, so get to your health food store and nip this right away. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm glad you are feeling better. My son had pneumonia and the doctor told me to make sure he had lots of fluids. Like jello, broth, water, juice, ect.. The doctor said that the fluids would help keep the flem from building up.
