I have just stopped smoking. How long will it take for the cravings to stop?

Question:
I have been smoking for 16 years. So far i have not smoked for 3 days. it has not been too bad. I am just wondering what to expect as far as withdrawal symptoms or anything difficult to endure.

Answers:
First of all, let me say congrats to you for taking on a very difficult habit to quit. It is very hard, but very well worth it. I quit last May, and have never regretted it once. It took me quite awhile to stop the cravings, but I think mostly it was the habit oriented symptoms that I had a harder time giving up. I was very used to waking uo, grabbing my smokes, etc. Just stick to it. If you can make it 2 weeks, you are there. I suggest sunflower seeds, stick pretzels or gum. They have worked for me. Good luck to you!

GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK

It will take two weeks for you to basically wash the physical cravings away. Beyond that, watch out for habit. I used to smoke Marlboros, and after I quit, one day I was sitting across the table from my friend who still smoked Marlboros, and his pack of cigarettes was on the table between us. I picked it up, took one out and started to light it before he said, "I thought you had quit." I had not even realized I was doing it, in a way; it was an automatic reflex conditioned by the sight of the pack on the table. So watch that force of habit demon!

And good luck. Don't buy the BS of the people who say oh, it's so hard to quit, etc., etc. They are either successful quitters who want a pat on the back, or failed quitters who are making excuses. It's only as hard as you let it be.

It will take about a month to a year or so. It depends on how long you have been smoking. Hang in there. it will pay off. Trust me.

My actual withdrawl symptoms lasted about 2 weeks maybe more but not much more. After that it is just habit. I did't know what to do with my hands. When I watched a movie or after I ate I felt empty or weird like something was wrong my hands felt dumb like they weren't supposed to just sit there. So I snacked. Go for my lungs bad for my butt. I gained 20 pounds. But its been seven years since I quit and I'm happy I did. Also the weight came off about a year into it. So give it time.

it takes a REALLY long time but I swear it's worth it all.

Keep trying
