Anything that you would wear to a nice restaurant, but make sure it's comfortable. You might be sitting on some hard chairs for a few hours.
Keep in mind that colleges & universities are hidebound with tradition and this is the graduates' day and you will be fine.
If it's evening, something long/semi-long, not glitzy, but don't be mousey.
If it's afternoon, something summery, but no sleevelss tops, plunging necklines, micro skirts or other disturbing/attention-getting styles.

Try something formal, fashionable but that will not steal your friend s spotlight
wear black gauchos, cream sandals( no flip flops lil' missie) and a black sequin or beaded tank. wear a cream vest and your set yo!
I'd wear a nice, simple dress, not too short probably just below the knee, and not too low cut, and take a shrug or shawl with you, just incase it gets cold.
Alternatively some formal baggy trousers (or knee length skirt) and a tank with a pretty shrug with sequins or lace detail will look really pretty too.
In either case just wear some nice wedges that are really in right now and look good with dresses or trousers
