Parenting isn't about "making" your children do anything. You cannot force respect on your children - this will only cause them to rebel even further. Instead, help them understand your problem. This isn't so that they take pity on you - that also does not work. You need to explain that you are still their mother, and psychiatric problems or not, your life experiences put you in a better position to teach your children how to lead healthy, full lives. A psychiatric problem many times is a chemical imbalance - a factor which is not in your control. As long as your children understand that YOU love and respect them, and that you are more knowledgeable in matters of everyday life, they should have no problem respecting you the way a mother should be respected.
