What are my options?

I have a chipped back top molar with a piece in the back missing. I let it go for awhile, my total and utter stupidity.

I have medicaid, and I hear they will only pay for extraction, not root canal. At this point, the tooth throbbs and hurts sometimes. It isn't swollen yet, but it has been hurting a lot more.

Is there anything temporary they can do until I get better insurance or save up for a root canal?

If it must be pulled, then what can I do. I am VERY VERY scared! I have an appointment in 3 days.

Nerve damage cont..?

Answers:
that same thing happened to me. 800 MG ibuprofen will reduce the swelling (take every 4-6 hours as needed for pain) and take one 500 MG vitamin C tablet (daily) to reduce the amount of bacterial infection. also, talk to your dentist about a payment plan. and get better insurance.

If you don't have the money right now, get it extracted and start saving for an implant. Just tell your dentist that you are planning to do that. Endodontic treatments are not always the best option, implants are safer and more predictable.

How guaranteed is it that I will not get any cavities in my life.?

I don't know how your medical system works so I can't help with that. Can you get "Sensodyne" toothpaste over there? It works well. It could hold you over until you see the dentist.
(I am in no way affiliated with the company, but I have used the toothpaste and it worked for me.)

They have this stuff on the market called Dent-Temp. Its a temporary filling for the tooth until you get to a dentist. Its pretty easy and doesn't hurt.Just we warned your dentist won't like it. The directions are on the box and can be found at CVS or most drug stores. Its around 10.00
