Is there such thing as adult ADD? If so, how do you convince someone they might have it and should seek help?

Question:

Answers:
There's a great book out there "Driven From Distraction" it has opened the eyes of so many adults to their ADD. What I appreciate about the book is that it doesn't just focus on the negatives of ADD but also highlights the positives: being able to think outside the box, good problems solvers, creative. Read it first and then talk about it (with great enthusiasm) and quite frankly if she does have ADD, its likely she won't be able to finish it anyways.

Good question.

My wife has ADD so I believe it exists. Also it is recognized by the US as a disability. NO SSI or SDI for it but is still considered a disability.

As for your friend needing to get checked?

There are a number of books and websites for ADD that have quizez or tests that will help people to identify if they need to be tested by a professional. I would say go to one of the sites or buy a book and see what they score.

My opinion: ADD is way over-rated. If they can't explain a persons behavior, they label it as ADD. Never heard of it when I was a kid, so what happened over the past 40 years?

Yes there is such a thing as adult ADD. As far as trying to convince someone to go get check out--well that is another story---I do not know-
