I am starting radiation therapy & dr says no antioxidants,th. will have neg effect. Any suggestions?
The conditions is breast cancer. I used Dr.Schultz fasting 8 years ago and went into remission. Have spent 1,000's of dollars on holistic products. Some good, some not. Cancer came back and had to resort to medical treatment. The doctors REALLY DON'T know anything about natural methods. I've been using AHCC&medicinal mushrooms for white blood cells-great results. Was planning on using Sun Chlorella for radiation, but doctor said radiation works by free radicals eating cancer cells and antioxidants would stop that process. Now I'm confused. Help! Thank you
He doesn't have a STD but I do, what is going on?
Answers:
Absolutely follow the advice of your oncologist this time.
Antioxidants would protect both the normal and cancer cells. Radiation oncologists carefully plan how and where between radiation is given to kill off the cancer cells and damage as few as possible of your healthy and normal cells.

Just becasue the herbs etc you take are not RX does not make them harmful when used with certein rx meds. Many times treatments do not work and after sleuthing Dr will find pt was eating herbs from the health food store. SOme often make white cell count off, do as the doc says, sometimes treatment is the only anwer adn doc went to school and took an oath to give you the best care he can. He says stop the herbs, stop them.Good luck to you, it sounds like you are a fighter.
what should i do to fix the frizzies, and keep my hair from going everywhere?
no antioxidants. simply follow what you're doctor says. This is a wrong notion about herbal medicines. Herbal medications or alternative medicine in conjunction with the ones prescribes will make the process of healing/palliative care faster or successful. Maybe in some cases. But still remember that these herbal meds still have chemicals in them that could be cause drug-to-drug interactions. it may hinder the effects of radiation or worsen the side effects of radiation. trust your dr on this one.
If you are unhappy with your oncologist, you might want to look for another one that will listen to you.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take anti-oxidants on the sly without telling your doctor.
You can print out some scientific articles on the topic and give them to your doctor for them to check out - the data on the problems of antioxidants and radiotherapy have been studied a lot. I incude title and address (from PubMed, so your doctor will take them seriously). Read the summaries, it will show you that your doctors concerns are not completely unfounded!:
