The purpose of catabolism is to release energy used to generate ATP. Your body does this when it needs to. If you maintain a postive nitrogen balance, the body typically will not catabolize regardless of the foods you eat. Since insulin controls (in part) your catabolic drive, the best way is just to eat a healthy, balanced diet, maintain blood glucose consistently, and daily calories ingested should exceed calories expended. Stay away from sugar-based and all processed foods.
