By all means yes. Search and study Canada's system and see what questions and answers you find there. Good question!

every other country except our has it why wouldn't it work for us?
Yes. Canada has it, so does UK, why can't we?
I think we should. Canada's health care system is by no means perfect, but I think if Presidential candidates can spend $100 million for a $400,000 a year job (and one of them loses) then we should be able to make sure that everyone in this country has health care.
I live in the Netherlands and I don't know anybody that is uninsured.
It would be a great relief to most Americans to know that they won't go bankrupt when they get sick.
Everybody deserves the proper healthcare they need.
Yes, we should. However, I'm not sure how realistic it'll be given the size of the population.
i think everyone in this country should be able to get proper healthcare, every other first world country has adapted some sort of plan, and it seems rediculous that the worlds richest country still doesnt guarentee healthcare.
Only if you want poor health care.
They have a better system in The Netherlands. Its manditory that all have insurance and if you cant afford it the government helps you out. Via disounts and tax ride-offs. I think the US should have a national system. Most of the country isnt insured. I know I cant afford it over there! its rediculous! I am having issues with my tooth and I am trying to take care of in here in Europe while I am here because its cheaper! (plus I might not have much choice).
yes! Let's equal the most important aspect of our lives in receiving good healthcare for all--should a healthy poor man die b/c he couldn't afford a liver transplant? While his rich alcoholic friend lives b/c he could afford to get one even though prognosis was poor? (Okay, bad example, depends on matching donors too) Should the elderly on fixed incomes sacrifice their health for prescription medications and copays for expensive procedures for groceries? We are not a third world country yet our policies ensure parts of the US are similar or worse to "3rd world countries." Okay, you can tell this is a sore subject with me..
ABSOLUTELY!
Nobody will like the taxes it will increase etc.. but I think we are at a point where it is necessary with only 1/3 of America having health insurance. Some might have it offered but when my 40 yr old Ex-hubby has worked for a company (he's SKILLED) for about 5 yrs total and is making 10 bucks an hr and paying 150 a check for health insurance, that's a bit out of control in my opinion.. and it's not even that great of coverage. Hot button for me too.
Nobody should have to choose betwee food and medicine, or rent and food. this is getting out of hand and has been for a long time. I guess Mr Bush thinks that because he's got money that the rest of us, are just lazy and don't work hard enough to get those great paying jobs they are exporting and leaving America behind. ARGHHHHH I gotta get out of this forum, I am a ticked off American in many ways. Make no mistake, I love our country, but it is lacking in most human services and that's very sad.
Of course every country should have national health care. It goes to show that our government is caring and concerned for the citizens health well being. An allocation of funds should be alloted for health to provide free or discounted rate for medical care. Such governments will be easily voted in again because to maintain good health is every man's main priority in life. Money itself cant buy you good health.
The term "national health care" is fraught with pejorative images of what systems abroad have experienced in their approaches: long lines for treatment, uneven treatement quality, etc. People associate this with "socalized medicine" or "government-managed medicine" which is anathema to the medical community and to a lot of Americans.
I think what you are going for is more along the lines of national health policy that states that all citizens have a right to medical treatment. Now, how that is implemented brings about a debate. I would agree that open competition in the private sector breeds efficiency, which would call for a form of government-subsidized or provided insurance (better than Medicaid) to pay the costs. When I get treatment in Britain, I always use a private physician and hospital, preferring this to the public sector.
The most important aspect that should be under debate is access to primary care and the preventive programs that should comprise the 1st level of intervention. This mode prevents the development of acute problems and chronic cases into level 2 and 3 interventions which are very costly.
I have a proposal for when I run for office. If you would like to read it, you will have to wait until the day that ice covers the fields of Gehenna.
