Why do women lactate after 3 years of having last baby?

Question:

Answers:
I could still express milk even 5 years after I stopped breast feeding. Here is what the experts say:

Lactation is rare in women who aren't pregnant or nursing a baby — and especially in women who have never been pregnant. Lactation is the production of milk by the breast. A whitish discharge from the nipple may not actually be milk. A common cause of abnormal nipple discharge are fibrocystic breast changes. This condition isn't serious.

Causes of abnormal lactation include:

A noncancerous (benign) tumor of the pituitary gland
Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
A side effect of some medications
Rarely, cancerous (malignant) tumors of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus
Any nipple discharge should be evalated by a physician

I had a baby, and I lactated for about a year after my baby was born. It has a lot to do with your hormones. Also, when you orgasm during sex, it trigger your hormones too and it causes your milk to leak (mine did anyway). But yeah, it's your hormones. When I started my birth control (Mirena) it stopped the leakage! Mirena is a wonderful B.C. option! It's good for 5 yrs.! Talk to your Dr.
