You can drink anything you want v-8 juice, make your own healthy juices, drink diet milkshakes but no solids. I don't think its very healthy i was on one.
They give you diarrhea. Alot of the weight you initially lose is water. Also, it's a starvation-type diet. Once you return to a normal diet, the weight returns easily. Just look at Oprah's first attempt with this.

liquid diets do help the weight come off but as far as keeping it off once you are off the ligquid, it is very difficult and a lot less su ccessful than other means of dieting.
I could tell you the one that I am using and it is doing great. I have a shake (Vanilla/chocolate) in the morning and it take care of my appetite and I eat 600 calorie meal at lunch. Dinner is same as morning. Each shake is 230 calorie and the 600 calorie meal is 1060 calories. I am short of 1000 calories but I am not starving myself. Well, I am on the Medifast Diet from Take Shape for Life. And, it consists of shakes, bars, and soups. You have the option to drink all shakes. It is Soy Protein and has all your nutrients. You will lose weight quickly with little or no exercise. It was recommended by my Dr. and it is healthy. They teach you to eat 5-6 small meals a day every 2-3 hours so you speed up your metabolism. And, your last meal consists of 7 oz. of lean protein and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables. It is a pretty easy diet to follow. I lost 25 lbs. from it so far.
I GUESS SOME PUSHES THE CRAP OUT AND SOME HELPS YOU GET MOVING.
Its almost like a detox. it flushes your system whilst maintaining your nutritional balance.so long as done responsibly.
it can however give you stomache pains due to lack of solid foods. it can be affective but only recommended to remain on them for 14days max.

they seem to have less fats and harmful type stuff.also being liquid it takes less time to digest it and break it down for elimination. the less time its inyou, the less time it has to stick to something, like the hips
Liquid diets are good, but don't give up foods completely, just watch your portions and keep them small. water is by far the best liquid diet, not only does water keep you hydrated, but it makes your skin complection look great. good luck with your diet.
