Does my daughter need a well child checkup at 6yrs?

Question:
My darling daughter is doctor/nurse phobic.checkups are HORRIBLE! I can't seem to find any info beyond the 5yr (kindergarden) physical/immunizations! HELP!

Answers:
6 yrs is not mandatory as long as she is up to date on her shots. HOWEVER, i think it might do her good to go to a check up once a yr. because she seems to has associated dr. with shots/pain. if she sees that not everytime u go to the dr. is there shots/pain, it might help the visits to go smooth in the future.hopefully u have a very gentle dr with great bedside manner who will help make her visit "fun". explain everything that's going on and y. remind her that she's a big girl when she doesn't cry. give her a special treat afterwards. (i always associated my childhood dr visits with the sucker my dr. gave me)

Other Answers:
go to nice places where they have cartoons on the wall and lots of dolls in the room while doctor does the check up

Ohhh yes she would get sick if she did not have a check up.

Why? Did something traumatize her to make her fear going there?

go to a place were it shows carttony thingy like kiddish

all children need yearly chech-ups to make sure that their are no suprising hidden medical disorders and to track childrens progress socialy and physicaly. If your child is afraid well then tough love! you gotta do what you got to do! and at 6 yrs shots are VITAL!! so if you want your child to stay healthy you must check up!

She'll be phobic until she gets used to a doctor. Try to make it a pleasurable experience. Try to find a doctor that deals with children the majority of the time. Remember--she feeds off of your perceptions. She should at least get a check-up every 6 months at this age.
