Seriously though, partial lobotomies are done on certain areas of the brain that might be cancerous but would not cause any problems for the sufferer to have removed.

Lobotomy. It isn't usually done for humans, except in cases of cancer and such (and only partial) but basically the top of the skull is sawn off to allow access to the brain, and the diseased part is cut out, then the skull is replaced and stapled in place. Oh, and the skin over top.
