Is swallowing toothpaste harmful?

Question:

Answers:
Most all toothpastes contain a certain percentage of fluoride and it is poisonous in large amounts. If you read the packaging, the instructions are not to ingest (meaning eat or swallow) toothpaste.

Other Answers:
why would you want to.

In very large quantities.

Well if you read on the tube it says not to ingest it. I'm sure if you do swallow just a little bit you'll be fine but large amounts could be poisonous. There are kids toothpastes out there that are swallowable. haha is that even a word?

maybe

In large quantities, yes, or for small children as the concentration is higher for them. It's the flouride that makes it toxic, but you'd have to eat a whole lot for it to be an issue.

i wouldn't recommend it

YES TRY NOT TO SWALLOW MUCH WHEN BRUSHING YOUR TEETH. IF YOU DO SWALLOW A LOT YOU WILL PROBABLY BE FINE BUT REMEMBER THERE ARE A LOT OF CHEMICALS IN TOOTHPASTE THAT ARE HARMFUL TO OUR BODIES SO KEEP IT TO NO MORE THEN WHAT IS ON A TOOTHBRUSH.

In small amounts should be OK. See the following link for some interesting info on Fluoride which is the active ingredient in toothpaste.

I wouldn't eat it like it was taffy but I'm sure a little bit wouldn't hurt. We swallow some anyway due to natural reaction. Take care!

On the side of the toothpaste is a warning for ingesting it.
If you swallow while brushing, this amount is tolerable by the body but small children should not use more an a pea size amount. Children under 2 yrs. old are supposed to use under the advice of a physician. There is a number for poison control on the tube.

Well, if you look on the back of a tube of toothpaste, it will tell you some instruction-like things and one of them is, "do not swallow." so I guess it is, I just don't know why.
