Motrin. Its generic name is Ibuprofen. Buy the store brand 'cause they're usually cheaper, and just as effective. Some folks can't take Motrin or ibuprofen. Those folks should not take aspirin either - aspirin and motrin are close chemically.

Those who can't take motrin, ibuprofen or aspirin can take Tyleonl (acetamenophen). Tylenol may not give as satisfactory a result as the other three mentioned above, but it has the added safety feature of not causing the stomach distress some folks experience with the other three.

There is also Nubain. It should, like the rest, be used according to package directions.

Other ways to address joint pain and discomfort are externally-applied heat. Use a heating pad set on LOW for half an hour to an hour, then take the heat away. Leave the heat off for half an hour, and if the pain comes back put the heat back on for another half hour to an hour. DO NOT go to sleep with the heating pad plugged in: that's a serious fire hazard. And don't set the thing on HIGH, that seriously increases your risk of being burned by the device.

Means that have NOT consistently proven helpful are herbal remedies such as glucosamine and chondroitin. Wish it were otherwise, but it ain't.

Joint pain that is severe and long-lasting may require a visit to a physical therapist who can utilize a combination of exercises, heat and ultrasound therapy to help allieviate the discomfort. Just don't expect overnight results. Joint problems that severe can take weeks or months to resolve.

Please don't use over the counter analgesics without doctor's advice. These drugs are known to cause subtle but cumulative effect on kidney & liver. Physiotherapy will give you relief if done regularly.
