Only when struck directly to the skull

I've heard the fumes are harmful for parakeets, but people have been using teflon pans for years with no evidence of harmful effects.

either way, one doesnt seem to mind

No, teflon pans are just very good pans and i think someone was just looking for an excuse to knock something perfect. They are one of the best things to ever happen to cookware.

only if the teflon is flaking off and getting in the food.

Harmful substances are all around you today. Teflon is no different. It does put off fumes when heated. They kill the parakeet and not you because the dose is not enough to kill you because of your size vs the parakeet's size. They are still harmful. All the toxins your body takes in every day built up. Try to eliminate all those you can.

Depends on whom you ask.

It depends on how much you eat with your food.

Yes they are! when they start to peel off .Teflon is poisonious if congeusted .Don't worry if you eat a little from sticking to your food. But you should just throw the pan away.Because once they start to peel .It will just keep coming off every time you use it.To much could hurt or make you sick.

The ingredients that are used to make teflon have been shown to cause cancer in tests. They most likely aren't dangerous with proper use, unless scratched or damaged.

The industry is currently working on a safer replacement. When it is commercially available, I will replace my pans.

If you are worried, or sensitive, don't use it.

According to recent studies, teflon and some similar nonstick substances are carcinogenic, meaning they can cause cancer. Not good.

Of course, teflon pans are even more hazardous when they come round about and smack you in the head. I wouldn't suggest you juggle these, just like I wouldn't suggest you sleep with your blowdryer. Assuming you have one.
