no one knows

sometimes its just gods will, other times the cord can wrap around the neck, the mother could have preclampsia,

Many things, drinking or abusing drugs during the pregnancy. Physical trauma to the woman's belly. A fatal genetic abnormality.

*Birth defects are common but often overlooked causes for stillbirth. About one-fourth of babies who are stillborn have one or more birth defects that are responsible for their death.

• The placenta and umbilical cord are the baby’s "lifeline" for oxygen and nutrients. Problems in either one may completely cut off or severely interfere with the needed flow of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the baby. Although commonly pointed to as the likely cause for death of a baby, problems with the placenta or umbilical cord actually account for only a moderate number of stillbirths.

• Although uncommon, maternal conditions may be responsible for stillbirth. Certain illnesses in the mother, such as diabetes or hypertension, and their treatments, sometimes cause stillbirths. An increased risk for stillbirth is also associated with the use of certain recreational drugs, particularly cocaine.

Many times, blood flow is cut off from the baby's umbilical cord by pressure and such. Maternal high blood pressure can also cause fetal death.

MY sister-in-law lost her baby one week before it was born. She was told by the Dr. that the placenta had torn away.

What are the causes of stillbirth?
After delivery, the baby and placenta are examined carefully to determine why the death occurred. An autopsy often is recommended. Even after extensive testing, however, in more than one-third of cases the cause of stillbirth cannot be determined.

Data collection on stillbirth is often inconsistent from state to state, however, it is believed that 1 in 3 stillbirths are caused by cord accidents, infections, genetic anomalies, maternal diabetes, and placental failures of varying kinds. Two-thirds of stillborn babies, including many that undergo a post-mortem evaluation, are diagnosed as having died for "undetermined or unknown" reasons. It is not uncommon that autopsies fail to reveal the cause or causes of these mysterious deaths!

The causes are as numerous as natural deaths.

Oh dear, such a terribly painful question to ask and to answer.

Something just wasn't right in the mix. Whether it's hormonal, or chemical, or that the divine just thought that the child might better assist another family in it's development.

Or, perhaps the child sensed an environment that he or she perceived as not conducive to their destiny.

Or, perhaps there was drug use, or domestic violence. I hope that neither was the case, and that it was purely biological or spiritually divined.

In any case, it is what it is. No heart-wrenching assessment will provide a true evaluation. So, I think it's best to honor the soul of the unborn by prayer and hope that he or she fulfills his or her destiny. And, to those who lost the most precious of precious, my heart and thoughts are with you.
