Peritoneum - a layer of tissue that covers the abdominal organ.

Any abdominal organ that is attached to the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity is called retroperitoneal organ. E.g. pancreas, kidney, ureter, colon. These organs only partly covered by peritoneum at their anterior surface.

The abdominal organs that are not attach to the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity are called intraperitoneal organs. e.g. stomach, small intestine. These organs are completely covered by peritoneum.
