Stress in a very common cause of arrhythmia's

Well, caffeine, nicotine and other stimulants are the major causes of arrhythmias so avoiding those things should help avoid arrhythmias.

However, I suffer from arrhythmias even though I do not consume(hardly) coffee, alcohol or cigarettes. At some point I may require ablation therapy but in the meantime, if I have an arrhythmia that goes uncontrolled, what I do before I take medication to control it (propranolol) is to do the Valsalva maneuver. If that does not work then I take the medication.

What Valsalva maneuver involves is simply plugging your nose and with your mouth closed, blow as hard as you can (against your plugged nose). Some people do this to try and block a plugged ear. But it is used quite a bit for certain types of arrhythmias.

However, before you do this you should check with your doctor first, if you are having symptoms of arrhythmia.

Listed below are some sites with lots of information on arrhythmias and the Valsalva maneuver.
