Get some bath salts and candles. There are products you can get at Wal-mart that plug in and make bubbles in the bath. Recipe for body scrub: 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 tbsp real lemon juice, 1 tbsp honey. Mix ingredients together put them in a resealable container. Apply after you have washed. Rub in circles all over areas you desire to soften. Rinse off. The brown sugar is lightly abraisive and will scrub away dead skin (exfoliate). The lemon's citric acid will cleanse skin and dig into pores. The honey will give skin a healthy glow and will soften. I have used this recipe. I think youll like it. HOMEADE PORE STRIPS: 1 tbsp (not jello brand)gelatin (try knox), 1 tbsp milk microwave for about 12-15 sec. All microwaves are different so you may have to experiment. I have found that after it starts to boil for a few secounds (watch it in the microwave)its time to take it out. Then let it cool for just a bit. (until you can touch it with out getting burned.) Then apply in a very thin layer anywhere you want to remove black heads. Let dry for about 10-15 minutes. Then peel off just like the ones you buy at the store. This has to be just right so dont give up if you cant get it to work the first time. It took me a few tries to get it right. Also you could boil some water in a pot over the stove, get a towel over your head and let the steam envelope your face from a comfortable distance. The steam will open your pores and will remove oil and dirt. I hope this has been helpful.

You'll probably want to get a portable whirlpool that you can stick in the tub. Big thick towels are great .Bath oil is nice and so are aromatherapy bowls and scents. Candles can be fun but dangerous so you have to be careful. Now add your favorite soaps and shampoos. Top in off with a little music and you are set. Happy bathing to you.

First of all, for best health and to optimize your home spa experience, stay hydrated. To tell if you have enough water in your system, pinch the back of your fingers between the knuckles. Your skin should go right back to the way it was before. If not drink water. Drink water until your urine is clear on an everyday basis, esp if you are sick, or trying to lose weight, in the extreme heat or cold, or if your skin or lips are dry. Moisturizers work on the premise that oil and water doesn't mix, therefore, if there is oil on your skin, the water will not evaporate through it. It is the water that your skin needs, not the oil.so drink that water! (I'm telling you this as I swig a mountain dew. But I DO know what I am talking about.) Bottled water is great.but you can buy ONE case of singles and refill cheaper from gallons or more of spring or distilled water. You pay more for the smaller containers.

There are lots of really really cheap items at the grocery store that make great body products.

Hair conditioner, any combo of the following: olive oil, mayonnaise, honey, egg, any other vegetable oil. Any of the oils is also a great body oil, small amount in the tub or after shower. SLIPPERY TUB.

Body smoother: honey and cornmeal, face if you are very gentle.

Facial scrub: baking soda paste OR oatmeal OR brown sugar with water, honey, or olive oil.

Hemmoroid cream is said to tighten up bags under the eyes. Don't double dip if you know what I mean.

Qtips make good eye makeup applicators. Disposable and more hygenic than your sponge brush sitting in the compact.

You can use blush or bronzer on a Qtip and apply to lips, then go over with chapstick for a natural lip color.

Makeup remover: Olive oil, Lubriderm, or Crisco, optimal results when slightly warmed up in hands or carefully in the mic.

Skin toners: Hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel, OR diluted lemon juice or rubbing alcohol or vinegar or vodka. Can add vitamin E oil (prick a capsule) or aloe to condition the skin.

Fragranced body spray or wipe: diluted witch hazel or rubbing alcohol with your fav cosmetic scent. Add moisture with aloe gel or vitamin E (prick the capsule).

Cracked or chapped lips, hands, feet, elbows etc: pop vitamin E caps until the area is glistening, OR olive oil, heavy moisture cream, vaseline, or crisco. Cover the area (old socks on hands or feet) and go to bed, will be soaked in by morning, repeat as needed. Can also be used on a healing burn. NOT right after incident. Oils will "cook" a burn.

Any lotion or cream can be boosted or weakened by adding the other. OR add water or olive oil to either. Start with Unscented Lubriderm lotion and Unscented Cetaphil cream. One is very light, one is very heavy. Mix as needed at the time of use for the right amount of help for the dry spots you have. You don't need a separate moisturizer for every little thing, such as feet or face. If you do pay for one, make sure it is worth it by having a medicated ingredient, or sunscreen or something that you need in it.

Sunburn: Vinegar OR aloe OR vit E

Bath soak: Powdered milk

Bath soak for a rash or other itching: regular old oatmeal (if instant, NOT the flavored stuff silly!) in a stray knee high stocking. Tie in a knot, toss in the tub. You can buy knee highs for this purpose or use orphans, you can fish out the goo and reuse or throw it away, they are cheap so I would buy more and toss used. Relieves itching, softens skin. AVEENO is a big ripoff. Great for chicken pox!

Yet another bath soak: Mix equal parts of baking soda and epsom salts, stir in color and any cosmetic fragrance item like perfume or essential oil, store in an airtight container. You can stir in some olive oil to saturate this, then about 1/4 inch to float on top, for a salt scrub. You can further modify this mixture by using table sugar in place of salts, less drying to skin. For scrub only, don't sit in sugary bathwater (vaginal infections, and baking soda can upset yeast balance too).

Bath soak for a hangover: Dump a WHOLE carton (2 lb) of epsom salt in a really hot unscented bath and pull those toxins OUT. Follow with lots of water and high fiber food to get you pooping. Let's here it for a clean colon!

Bath soak for a cold or headache: Make the epsom salt/baking soda soak, and add eucalyptus oil or pepprmint extract to it. Or fill bathroom sink with slow stream of hot water, and add oil to the rim of the sink.

Tea tree oil has a million different uses: mix with cinnamon and warm water for an antiseptic mouthwash, tastes bad but your mouth is clean. Can douche with it or use it for other fungal infections. Can use as a first aid antiseptic. Can use to boost laundry. Can use as an acne treatment. Can use to treat dandruff. Can add to household cleaners for use as a disinfectant. Some like the smell alone, others think it's horrible, it doesn't mask well but can be blended in with other essential oils that some find pleasant. Lavender is a common one.

Can make a baby wipe spray: mix a couple drops of tea tree oil in a trigger sprayer bottle of water, and wipe baby with a nice paper towel or TP.or fill a plastic storage container with select a size paper towels and saturate with tea tree infused distilled water. NOT MUCH OIL it will burn baby's skin if too strong, try on yourself, it should only feel like a verrrrrrrrrrry mild cool! This spray would be an excellent refreshing body spray for yourself, or antiseptic solution for first aid.

Leave in conditioner for hair: Blop (very accurate measurement, somewhere between teaspoon and tablespoon) of your fav regular conditioner, in a spray bottle of water. Shake well before use.

Related, beauty stores sell a knockoff of Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special shampoo. The matching conditioner is gross.smells like some sort of green vegetable (brussel sprouts, or spinach or something that I can't place but definitely a sick smell, I don't know what's up with that.) but the SHAMPOO is really reasonable price for a 32 oz bottle. It is gentle enough to use every day but also deep cleanses hair. Also treats flaky scalp and skin conditions (dandruff, psoraisis, excema), a really exhilirating body wash with deodorant and antibacterial properties! Can use for fine washables (um.sanitize that thong.) and germkilling handsoap, dishsoap.

Foot soak: 1 cup minty mouthwash, 2 cups epsom salts, 1 gallon very warm water. Disinfects feet and freshens foot odors, invigorating cool feeling.

Other ideas that don't cost much NOT spa though:

Vinegar to clean windows, remove odors, kill germs, and works in the downy ball as a fab softener, and a million other things.

Baking soda as toothpaste, gentle scouring powder (add some bleach to make a paste for stains) and to soften water in the laundry, carpet fresh, and a million other things.

Salt water can be snorted (YES!) to ward off a sinus infection. HURTS! Get a baby's booger bulb and fill it with a mild solution, use it the opposite way as intended, that is, to put stuff in, not suck it out. Disinfect the thing after use.

Vanilla keeps the gnats away.

Homemade safer ice pack for injuries: camping stores department have waterproof plastic bags, they are thick with a roll-down velcro closure. They come in a three pack of various sizes.

Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and distilled water. Freeze flat. The alcohol should keep the water from freezing but will be very cold, a squishy ice pack.

Homemade ice pack for injuries #2: use crushed ice with salt in a ziplock bag. Not appropriate to keep in the freezer, mix on the spot. The salt will make the ice even colder. Protect skin with a thin layer in between, such as a dish towel.

Ice pack for injuries #3: unopened frozen peas or corn. Small pieces snug right up to the booboo, they are in a nice sturdy bag.

Caution about using all these oils, particularly OLIVE oil in the bathroom. THEY are SLICKERY in the tub!
