How do you prepare a 4yr old for his first trip to the eye doctor?

I just took my 5 year old for the first time about 2 months ago. Reassure him that it doesn't hurt! My daughter was afraid that it would hurt. I took my kids with me for my appointments with the eye doctor and dentist before they had their first visits. It helps when they can see what goes on and that it doesn't hurt mommy. make him a deal.if he's a brave boy you'll take him to McDonald's or get a new toy. Bargaining works pretty good.

I know he's 4 and wont really listen..But its nothing really..My grandfather is an eye dr..The worst part is the bright light they shine in your eyes..No needles or anythign like that.Just try to keep re-assuring him of that..

Awwwwwe .. how sweet :) . My 4 year old daughter goes to the eye dr a lot . The first time we were a bit nervous but they were so sweet to her and they have fun objects for to look at up on the wall . Tell him .. Tessa's mommy said its fun!!
Go to the library and find a book for kids about going to the eye doctor. I did this with my daughter before her first dentist appointment when she was little and it helped a lot, along with bringing her favorite blanket.
