How can I get rid of really bad dandruff?

Question:

Answers:
1. Use a good shampoo- alternate between a coal-tar based product (smells nasty, works great!), a decent dandruff/psorasis shampoo, and a 'daily clarifying' or baby shampoo. Alternating is important because your scalp will get used to just one version, and the baby/clarifyin shampoo will prevent build-up of chemicals. Follow the directions on the shampoo- you usually need to leave it in place for a while.

2. Do not over-stimulate your scalp. Lots of scrubbing, combing, or brushing the scalp will scour off the old crust, but that just stimulates new crust growth. Leave the crust alone and let the chemicals work on it. If you feel you HAVE to sour/brush hard, do it before shampooing with the coal-tar product and then let the stuff sit in place for a bit.

3. Do not over-wash your hair. Oddly enough, too clean of hair often has worse dandruff than hair that is only washed a couple-three times a week. You can rinse it between times with just water when you shower.

4. Check out the various anti-dandruff websites or medical sites rather than entrusting your health to the sorts of random answers you can get in places like this.

Other Answers:
Skip dandruff shampoo and go straight to psoriasis shampoo. Its the same ingrediants only more concentrated.

Apple cider vinegar works really well.

you could also use salt and rub it this will take off the oilyness.

It's actually the oiliness, not the dryness. The mouthwash may work for the same reason, however, I do NOT RECOMMEND MAYONAISE!

comb your air a lot and the anti-dandruff shampoo actually works
