What does it mean to have a geographic tongue?

Question:
allergies to food

Answers:
The tongue has tiny fingerlike projections on its surface that have to do with taste and other sensory input and they are called papillae. They can become enlarged for various reasons that are not pathological (disease-related), and on some individuals certain regions of the tongue's surface are more affected than other areas, causing what looks like patchy areas that can resemble a geographical map of land and water. The condition is normal and fairly common and requires no treatment at all.
