HSV - 1, oral sex question?
Question:
Ok. Now like 60+% of Americans I have HSV - 1 in my mouth. Not from oral sex, but most likely from a toothbrush. I do realize that if it ever was the case, and the woman was aware, I should use a dental dam, as well as be on suppressive medication (with no oral while sores are there).
The QUESTION is, somehow I doubt this would help, but combining the 2 methods with rinsing my mouth out with some 50/50 Rubbing Alcohol (Or the equivalent of something else that is shown to kill viral cells), decrease the chance of transmission.
Answers:
Hey here is a good source of information on the topic. it's more like 80-90% have HSV1 and only like 10-20% know it..plus you can't get HSV1 from a toothbrush. Maybe from kissing someone that has it, or oral sex..but not a toothbrush.
Other Answers:
the only time u could perform oral and kiss is if u have no sores no if and or buts about goto the dr's unless u already have to find out for sure that is what u have u maybe worry about nothing u can get cold sores from other things and they just go away and never come back ie:cold or fever
no.because the virus is ON YOUR SKIN.not in your mouth!
you only need to take Valtrax daily if you get more than 2 outbreaks a year.also there is a blood test now to determine if you have herpes 1 or 2.but FYI you can get either 1 or 2 on your mouth and/or on your genitals
it sounds to me like you have CANKER SORES.if they are white and painful INSIDE YOUR MOUTH like on your gums or on the inside of your cheek- they are not herpes and NOT CONTAGIOUS!!.a cold sore will form on your lip or around the outside of your mouth..and in some cases people get them on their nose.
good luck.and if your worried go see a DR and get a blood test!

personal experience..i also talk to my OB/GYN alot!
Have you actually tested positive for hsv1? If you haven't, ask your doc for a type specific IgG herpes blood test.
And Neea is right - you don't get it from a toothbrush. IF you have it, most likely you were infected as a child, like most people are. A lot of people don't realize that cold sores are infectious, and that's how its spread.
And no - IF you have hsv1, there isn't any need to use anything like alcohol to help lower the risk of transmission.
IF you have it, and are that concerned, you could take an antiviral, such as valtrex or acyclovir, to help supress it and cut your shedding rates.
p.s. Hi Neea!! ;)
