How can I be on a diet on a budget? What things should I buy when I shop for groceries?
Question:
Answers:
Vegetables. You can cut up celery and carrot sticks at night, keeping them fresh in the fridge.partially cook a variety of vegetables and then heat them up in a microwave.another trick I used to do was cut an acorn squash in half, pop it into my bag, heated it up at work for about 10 minutes - it tastes great, and you don't need any butter or salt.quick and easy.
Vegetables simply pull the weight off your body, it seems. :)
(and fruits, of course.just no bananas)
Other Answers:
buy stuff thats like low carb n buy more vegetable n fruits.
1)Buy generic.
2)Replace beef products with turkey. Less expensive and healthier. A pound of ground turkey can usually be found for 99 cents to $1.49 per pound.
3)Buy fresh produce and meats on sale and adapt your menu to your selections not your selections to your menu.
You can buy fruits and veggies cheap at a local produce market. Just watch your calories and sugar. Try to keep you caloric intake at around 1400 calories per day. Also try to eat 3 small meals and 2 snacks a day instead of just the three main meals. This will boost your metabolism and help you to burn more calories. Jello mixed with cool whip makes a great low calorie snack.
I am in the same boat, always on the run. Get a big lunch pale of sorts, and maybe buy some of the following.
Eggs, oatmeal, sugar free all fruit jelly.
Ezekiel bread.
Boneless chicken.
Spinich leafs in your salad.
Tuna or Salmon.
Gets some tupper ware containers and use them for three or four protein shakes.
Just use your imagination.
I am also struggling to eat healthy on a tight budget. I always have eggs, peanut butter, sugar-free jelly, whole wheat bread, and oranges. These are staples that are really inexpensive and last a really long time. Eggs are a low calorie source of protein that studies have found can help control your appetite all day if you eat them for breakfast. Peanut butter has protein and healthy fat to also help control appetite. Oranges last a really long time in the fridge and new studies are beginning to show evidence that vitamin c may play a role in weight loss.
Just eat less. That's cheap. Drink lots of water. It's free.
I'm a student too and I feel for you. Don't buy fake food like diet soda or low calorie whatever. (I buy it but it definitely is a luxury!)
Try to fit in exercise where you would be in transit anyway. For instance instead of spending 15 minutes on the bus, I walk to school, which takes about 45 minutes. But it only takes 30 minutes more than I would have spent getting there anyway, so I buy 30 minutes and get 15 minutes for free!

If it's in a box, can or jar, don't buy or eat it. You will be eating food full of chemically processed additives that will zap your energy and make your toxic.
Shop for organic fruits and vegetables, eat chicken and fish.
Purchase a wok and do lots of stir fries..fast, easy and better for you.
You might also want to consider buying a juicer and start juicing your fruits and veggies everyday. You will get 100% of the nutrients, will give you more energy and help you lose weight.
I would recommend buying lowfat Snack bars, baby Spinach for dinner, Chicken breast strips (already cooked), Crystal Light. and Breakfast Carnation. Sugar free pudding, Yogurt, Craisins, Healthy Choice soups. low sodium crackers and fruit. If you are always on the go. That's is all you have time for. Just pre-packaged food. Make time to just cook ONE of your meals. Preferably dinner. And, take a multi-vitamin.
Always fresh fruit and vegetables.
go vegetarian! meat is kinda expensive anyways and BAD for you (and its murder)i have actually lost lots of weight by changing my diet
fruits and vegetables are inexpensive and convenient.
Yogurts, and granolas as well.
and protein, peanut butter, chicken, or fish.
I pack chopped up celery, radishes, and baby carrots with some dip for lunch, along with a cup or bag of fruit (canteloupe, grapes, etc)
along with that I have a chicken, or turkey sandwich, on a whole wheat roll, or potato roll.
a bottled water, and a few snacks, a chewy granola bar. etc..
Just watch out for the high sugars, and look for things that include protein, in your breads, snacks.
shop the edges of the grocery produce bakery and deli/meat. stay away from boxxed foods
Slim Fast products are a cheap way to go and if you go to their website and sign up you can also get coupons. Also drink lots of water, walk to school and errands, and eat lots of fruits and vegtables they are usually cheaper in the summer anyways. Then Finally budget for what is most important. If you health is important to you, budget so that you can afford the fruits and vegtables even if you have to go with canned ones and get coupons on them.
I'm a single guy that doesn't make much money. Cooking at home is the best way to go. Onions, celery and carrots are the base for a lot of dishes and it cost less then 4 bucks for 4 pounds fo food. Buy the family pack or the chicken that's on sale and you can freeze what you do not cook right then. If you will take the time to learn how to break down a whole chicken then you can save more money.
OK so if you cant cook then go to the local discount book carrier and get cheep cook books.
When i go to the store to get food I only go on the out side ring. Produce, Meat, Milk, Bread, and out. Once a month I'll get oil and seasoning. I spend less then 400 per month on food, and its healthy food.
I have lost 100 lb since I stopped colas and fast food.
well take breakfast bars in the morning they are cheap and then just have salads and low carb foods and go to the gym if you have time.
