Calcium for weight loss?

I've recently heard that taking calcium supplements can assist in weight loss. Does anyone have any personal insights into this? How much calcium is required per day?

Any additional info will be most appreciated.

taking calcium supplements certainly sped up weight loss for me,alongside a low fat diet of course. I lost 5 lb in a month without the supplements then 11 lb the next month with the supplement! I used tesco's own brand calcium and vitamin d at 400 mg of calcium in each tablet. So, it worked for me!

Don't believe the hype. Mike/Dairy companies have been paying for the ads. Plus the weight lost was over a period of 6 months which anyone can lose weight in six months with or without milk. We all know what works..healthy eating and exercising which is what the Dairy companies have printed in small print on their products.

Calcium is essential for healthy bone and muscles.Average adult requires 1000mg calcium a day.Body can only absorb upto 600mg ca at atime so it has to be taken in 2 divided doses.
Ca will not cause any weight loss but whan you have very high level of Ca in the blood you may loos weight but its a toxic effect and ull be very sick if ur blood ca goes >11mg/dl.

one glass of milk has 300mg ca, average cheese piece has 75mg ca.

so take only requird amt of ca and it wont cause wt loss.
