will thyroid medicines make me lose weight? (synthroid)?

Question:

Answers:
Only if you have gained weight from an improperly functioning thyroid. If your thyroid is healthy and you take it, you will screw your system up.

Other Answers:
no but certain cases yes

depends on how unbalanced your metabolism is

Messing around with hormones (even synthetic ones) is a really BAD idea.

Just taking synthroid medicine to lose weight is a really bad idea. Look up overactive thyroid - its no fun.
If you have had an underactive thyroid for a while you could lose hair and have no energy and gain weight. If this is the case and then you get put on synthroid you might lose weight as your thyroid level is normalized. It is not diet medicine.

Synthroid user for nealy a decade. PS eat right and exercise dont take a pill.

I take it and I know how you feel. Im 16 and I have to take medicine everyday. For the rest of my life. You should only take synthroid if you NEED it. Even if you dont need it and you forget to take it for one day, your body will start messing up. If youre just going to take it for weight loss than I wouldnt advise you to take it because there could be some serious side effects. Synthroid doesnt really make you lose weight either, it helps keep it balanced.
