When lifting weights, should you put the weight down between reps?


Question:
i mean, like when you are using a machine, not free weights, should you let the weight come to a full rest after each rep? it is much more tiring to not let it come to rest but does it really help because then you can only do a few reps adn not get a really good burn. thanks
