does anyone know the after effects of cellulitis?
My son had severe cellulitis 1 1/2 years ago, his entire right leg and lymph nodes were involved. His leg continues to be 1/2 again the size of the other, and is discolored. Circulation seems to be good, no complaint of pain. Will this ever clear up?

He should be seen by the doctor to be sure that there is no residue left from the infection. They might want to run some tests to be sure there is no lymph blockage. Many times people who get cellulitis wind up with damage to the lymph, which creates lymphedema. If he gets an all clear on the infection, he should seek treatment from a certified lymphedema therapist who will do manual lymph drainage therapy on him. It's a medical massage of sorts that moves the fluid out of the swollen areas to recirculate it and thus making swollen areas alot less swollen.

I would suggest that he see the dr. in the meantime I would have him elevate to see if the swelling goes down..discoloration is not good. Cellulitis is usually due to infection. You should go back to the Doctor before it gets worse. Elevation of the leg will help but you need to get some anti-biotics otherwise you can get worse problems. Has he been checked for diabetes?Source(s):
