Are there any cures that realy work to rid head lice as nothing from the chemist seems to work?

Question:
My kids are aged 8 and 10 and I cant get rid of the head lice.

Answers:
The sure-fire method is to sit there and comb and pick out each louse one by one. Time-consuming, but it works.

I've also heard that you can use olive oil to drown the lice. In the old days, they used kerosene, but I don't recommend that one.

Other Answers:
Lice like clean hair. Try not washing it for a couple of days. OTC lice washes help a lot. If the person is a male, you may have to shave his head.

this might seem stupid but i read in a newspaper is to cover the hair in mayonasie lol

go to the dr`s or use fire, remember if your kids heve them, then proberly so does everyone else in the house they live, also try changing the bedding, because of lice eggs, and do NOT share the same hair brushes. The Dr`s is the best bet,,,,,,,,,also who are they playing with.

its a myth they only live in clean hair, they will live in any hair, the homeless are covered in lice and mites, and im sure your kids are a million times cleaner than the homeless.

Take them to the dr`s they may need somthing stronger than over the counter medications.

Go here and do just what they say to do and you'll be done with the problem. http://www.headliceinfo.com/

You can go to the store and but the stuff that gets them out of the hair and spray that can use that kills them in the house strip all bedding dirty colthing and everything that may have come in contact with the lice.

My girl had it at 8. We had to cut her hair up to her ears, use the lice medication, and wash EVERYTHING in hot water with a bit of bleach. Bedding, pillows, stuffed toys(some went in the trash), They can be on the couches, chairs, in the carpet.anything that is upholstered. Wash ALL of their clothing! You have lots of wash to do. I was at a place once where 1 woman had lice, and the ENTIRE facility was taken to the laundry mat. We ran the washers till closing. This is NOT an easy task you have before you. You might want to get a little help from a friend, and the girls. Good Luck! I never want to deal with those little critters again. Make sure they understand not to use other peoples brushes, or jackets. Don't let them drag their hair in the sand at school when they are playing, or on the swings. Lice is EVERYWHERE!! Sorry about your luck.

Try a tree called "Kakawate". It is a Philippine medicine that eliminates any parasites in the scalp of any hair. You can try it on animals. The instructions are boil the leaves of it and warm after. Then pour it onto the scalp and dry it.

But there is an alternative. It is the Guava leaves. It is the same of how kakawate leaves are boiled but pour it after it cools for 7 min. and pour it on your hair. .

This might sound crazy to you but when i was a kid those donkey years back, i myself got caught with head lice and had hell with them coz i do not have loving parents to help me .. so what i did was. since lice are something like insects, i pressume using the ddt on my hair will rid them and guess what. it did. all i did was, i took a towel and wrap it around my hair.. then i spray the ddt on to my hair. then i let it stay for a while with the towel wrap around my head. i washed it off with shampoo and i can see the head lice around the water and sudds. nowadays it is so much easier coz there are some water based ddt. so i guess it would not be too bad. that was my experience.

You need to try the over the counter remedies. If your kids can't seem to get rid of them, it is more likely that a reinfestation is occurring. Wash all of the bed linens in the house with hot water at least once a week. Make sure that your clean their hair with the lice shampoos and pick out the nits. Repeat. Treat everyone in the family. Make sure that their coats aren't touching someone else's in the coatrooms at school. Wash all brushes and comes with hot soapy water as well as all hats worn. Make sure your children know that wearing someone else's hat or using someone else's brush or comb. If you still can't seem to get rid of them, call the doctor.

Rinsing with peroxide.
