This virus is spread through the saliva and is often called the "kissing disease." Almost anyone can get mono no matter what the age. It's estimated that up to half of all preschool children in the United States have been infected with the virus, with few symptoms. Adults over 35 also rarely show symptoms, making diagnosis difficult. Most cases of mono, however, occur in teens and young adults, those between 15 and 30.
