How can I get my niece's ethnic hair straight- without frizz?

Question:
I had her hair proffesionally done, but it's still curly, and she wants to have hair like Tyra Banks.

Answers:
If by ethnic, you mean black then I have a suggestion. If your niece's hair is naturally curly, the only way to get it permanently straight is if she gets a relaxer (perm). If she does not want to get her hair relaxed then she may have to settle for flat ironing it. The unfortunate thing is that she may have to do this often because it will not last as long as she may like. A good tip for her to remember is to wrap her hair every night and use a satin cap (they sale them at Wal-Mart) and it should keep it straight for a little longer. It is also good to use Infusium 23 hair products to protect her hair from the damage the heat may cause.

Other Answers:
Get a really good hair straightener (i have the maxius 1 & it works really good) but b4 u straighten, put shine gel on (i use 'straight se.. hair' that works really well too)

Try a flat iron, but make sure it gets hot, and make sure the plates on the iron are COMPLETELY CERAMIC and not copper plates "dipped" or "coated" with ceramic. You can find these in a salon. Walmart and Target do not carry this type of flat iron. Ceramic helps the plates on the hair shaft lay down using postive ions. It also makes the process faster because the heat is consistant throughout the plate and doesn't create hot spots or break your hair off. Your flat iron should get to about 450*F. If that is too expensive, dangerous or her hair is too fragile for a straightener, she can try a product from Paul Mitchell called Foaming Pomade. Work about a quarter size (more if her hair is longer than her shoulders, but not too thick) through her hair while its still wet, blow dry with a BIG round ceramic brush, and follow with a flat iron. If she wants to keep her curls, but just make them not as frizzy, she can use the same product after her hair is already dry and just work it through concentrating on her ends.

*If you use a flat iron, make sure she is getting enough moisture in her hair, and use a product with vegetable protein (animal proteins like ceramides or collagen or keratin make the hair brittle and prone to breakage) once a week. Look for a products with ingredients like wheat or soy amino acids or hydrolyzed soy or wheat protein.
