I get really bad migranes and my prescription medicine doesnt work what can i do to help stop them?
Question:
Answers:
Advise your doctor for another medication. With migraines, sometimes you have to test a few medication to see which one works best for you. Learn relaxation techniques. Breathing exercises, meditation. it might also help.
Other Answers:
Tell your doctor that they don't work. Get another prescription and try again until you find one that works. Your doctor won't say, "I'm sorry, I can't help you anymore."

First of all, make sure you are going to a neurologist, not just your family doctor. A neurologist will be much better able to help you with your migraines. Definitely try different prescription medicications. Some of the prescriptions the doctors will start you off with are worthless. Try ones that are from the class of drugs called "triptans", those are specifically for migraines, and tend to work the best. Those include Imitrex, Zomig, Relpax, Maxalt, etc.
Also, if you suffer from frequent migraines, it may be helpful to talk to your doctor about trying a daily preventative medication. There are many different types of preventative medications that your doctor can try; many more preventative than treatment. There is always hope.
And as previous people have noted, lifestyle modifications can also help. Try to decrease stress, and be careful of certain foods. Foods like dairy products, foods containing MSG, alcohol, and aged cheese can trigger migraines in some people. Also, smoking can be a trigger for some. Try keeping a headache diary, and noting every detail you can - what you ate, how you feel, what you were doing - hopefully you will soon notice a pattern and you will be able to identify some triggers, and will be able to eliminate them. Good luck!
