Has anyone had a transvaginal (internal) ultrasound scan? What sould I expect?
I've been refered for a scan by my doctor as I might be infertile. I don't know what to expcet. Does it hurt? What will happen? My appontment is first thing in the morning, will I need to take the rest of the day off work?
Please can you say what country your scan was done in, incase the procedure is different in differnt countries. I'm in the UK.

That's easy. Don't panic. I was scared before my first one. But I've had three now, and it is not painful at all. I have one before every anual exam to monitor fibroids. There is absolutely no pain. They use kind of a wand with a plastic sheath cover. To me it feels like there is barely any insertion, and I wander how they see everthing they do. You have nothing to worry about. I took the rest of the day before my first because I was nervous and upset. But was very relieved when it was all over and had been so easy.

Sure have. I had to have my ovaries scanned. I am in the US. Basically, they had me drink a TON of water (40 Ounces, I believe). Then, when my bladder was full enough, they could begin. I think the bladder had to be full to that they could distinguish it from other organs. I could be wrong.Anyway, they use a "wand" that is about 2 inches in diameter, and 7 or so inches long, and use it as an internal probe. I found the process to be uncomfortable, but not really painful. I was slightly sore the next day.

They dont hurt at all, at least in my experience. So you shouldn't worry and can go back to work right away. All they do is insert a kind of probe (like a long thin stick) and move it around a bit (they cover it with a condom and then apply some kind of cream/lotion on it). But the doctor / technician will probably tell you to let them know if it hurts, because it shouldn't. So don't worry about that and good luck.PS: I'm not in the UK (I'm from Argentina)

Its not that bad. I had one when i was pregnant with my 1st child. They make you drink a lot of water which you probably already know. Then then, how would you say it, Put a probe like thing inside of you and do the ultrasound that way. Its almost like when you go for your yearly exam to an obgyn and the stick that thing in to open you up. but its a little bigger. i went right back to work after.
