Are lead pencils dangerous?

Question:
My child had the end of a pencil in his mouth.

Answers:
he will be all right. but I would tell him to stop doing this. He could be running with say a pencil( or any object) and stick himself literally with it in the mouth.

Other Answers:
They aren't actually made of lead anymore. They're made of graphite, which is carbon.

there only dangerous when you gab them in your eye

Yes, because you can get lead poisoning. But pencils are made of Graphite nowadays.

they'll be fine.

not at all.

better keep a closer eye on him/her, i had a buddy whos son was chewin on one and his sister shoved him and it really F'ed his soft pallet up, but no it wont

when my brother was in the first grade someone stuck a pencil in his ear and the tip broke off and got stuck. i'd say that was pretty dangerous. luckily he didn't lose his hearing or anything.

yes, THEY EXPLODE. I had one once, back in nineteen hundred and frozen to death and I can tell you, watch out, they're very explosive, far more explosive than explosives like nitro-G , AND NOT ONLY THAT BUT ALSO DID YOU KNOW THAT MY CAT HAS THREE,NO, I LIE, FOUR CAP GUNS IN THE LOFT.

Only if used as weapons. The "lead" in an ordinary pencil has no lead it it at all but graphite held together by a bonding material. It's not at all toxic. But tell the kid to keep the thing outa his mouth anyway. There're much healthier things to chow down on!

No, they dont contain lead since decades ago, they are just called that. You could eat an entire pencil with no ill effects. They are totally harmless, due to the fact that children put them in their mouths all the time. They contain no lead, just harmless carbon and coal derivatives.

they don't use lead to amke pencils anymore because of the danger.
they use graphite. not good for the kid, but not toxic either.

they aren't dangerous unless you stab someone in the eye with one
