How long does it take to get flu symptoms after exposure?
I went to an interview yesterday & I am a germ phobic as it is but I do not know a polite way to not shake hands. Anyway, the interviewer had just thrown up in the bathroom, came in shook my hand & then proceded to tell me they had the stomach flu. I was very aware not to touch my face and as soon as I was outside I put hand sanitizer on. How long before I know I am in the clear.
Thanks :o)

There is an incubation period of about 10-14 days actually. So- if you DID contract anything, it may not show up right away. The hand sanitizer probably saved your bacon ;) That is one of the keys to keeping yourself from catching the flu or excessive colds. It can be anywhere between 3-14 days. Some flus are extremely contagious and you can catch them right away.
It happened to my family around New Year. My neice was sick in the morning. By evening all kids but 2 were sick and the next day I had it and so did their parents.
I don't blame you for being afraid of the flu especially the stomach flu :S

Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 days after becoming sick. That means that you can pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick.More Questions and Answers
