how sore are bruised ribs?

It all depends on the pain exactly! For instance if it's muscular than ice will help with severe pain but it will also cause stiffness, where as heat will relax the muscle but if there is muscle damage then it may induce more pain. If you slept wrong or pulled a muscle I would suggest heat and massage. If it's nerve pain or or torn muscle I would suggest ice and rest.

any diet tips that really works?

Icing your neck will help to reduce any swelling or inflammation. Sometimes heat also helps the pain dissipate. Also of times it depends on the person, some people really like using heat, and some like to ice. I would try icing it first. Make sure that you have something between the ice pack and your skin. Probably ice it for 10 minutes or so. If icing and heating do not help your severe neck pain you could try massage. Also you may want to consider going to a chiropractor if the pain shoots down your legs or arms. Good luck, having your neck hurt severely is no fun, been there done that.

You should see a good pain specialist doctor. Try Dr.Sanjay Gupta in Philadephia.I think the number is 6102027483
